Primary breast edema on contrast-enhanced digital mammography: a preliminary experience

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Background Primary breast edema can cause marked increase in skin thickness, density and echogenicity due to dense tissue filled with fluid so causes subsequent significant attenuation of both the x-ray ultrasound beams. The study aim is assess value contrast-enhanced digital mammography (CEDM) assessment characterization obscured underlying lesions cases primary edema. Results Fifty five female participants were evaluated, median age 51 years old IQR 21. CEDM shows high sensitivity specificity lesion detection as well local extension delineation associated It was accurate multifocal/multi-centric disease. considered a good negative test metastatic axillary lymph nodes exclude any lesions, it delineating masses by condensed parenchymal tissue. calculated DM & 87.5%, 95.8%, 55.5%, 72%, PPV NPV 91, 93.6% 45%, 77.8%, respectively. Conclusions has an important additional diagnostic assessment, better edematous cases.

Initial clinical experience with contrast-enhanced digital breast tomosynthesis.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES Contrast-enhanced digital mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis are two imaging techniques that attempt to increase malignant breast lesion conspicuity. The combination of these into a single technique, contrast-enhanced digital breast tomosynthesis (CE-DBT), could potentially integrate the strengths of both. The objectives of this study were to assess the clinic...

Estimating Breast Thickness for Dual-Energy Subtraction in Contrast-Enhanced Digital Mammography: A Theoretical Model

Dual-energy contrast-enhanced digital mammography (DE CE-DM) images the perfusion and vasculature of the breast using an iodinated contrast agent. High-energy (HE) and low-energy (LE) images of the breast are acquired; the DE image is obtained by a weighted logarithmic subtraction of the image pair. We hypothesized that the optimal DE subtraction weighting factor, w, is dependent on three param...

Estimating breast thickness for dual-energy subtraction in contrast-enhanced digital mammography using calibration phantoms

Dual-energy contrast-enhanced digital mammography (DE CE-DM) uses an iodinated contrast agent to image the perfusion and vasculature of the breast. DE images are obtained by a weighted logarithmic subtraction of the high-energy (HE) and low-energy (LE) image pairs. We hypothesized that the optimal DE subtraction weighting factor is thicknessdependent, and developed a method for determining brea...

Comparison between Breast MRI and Contrast-Enhanced Spectral Mammography

BACKGROUND The main goal of this study was to compare contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with histopathological results and to compare the sensitivity, accuracy, and positive and negative predictive values for both imaging modalities. MATERIAL/METHODS After ethics approval, CESM and MRI examinations were performed in 102 patients who had ...

Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Digital Breast Tomosynthesis

PURPOSE The purpose of this work is to characterize the spatial dependence of the in-plane 35 modulation transfer function (MTF) in tomosynthesis and investigate the influence of the acquisition geometry. METHODS The in-plane MTF was calculated from measured edge spread functions using a custom 40 test tool consisting of a 0.250 mm thick lead sheet affixed to a 5.88 mm acrylic sheet. Images wer...
